Lubricants, an essential role

The request of constantly increasing functions, that the mineral oils, used until the 40s, could not satisfy, has proven indispensable the use of additives, namely of particular chemical products (the “additives”) in order to give the lubricant new and interesting properties or to improve the existing ones.

It is necessary to identify the additives that best respond to the application needs of various products, in order to join the maximum performance with the respect of the environment, being the latter a condition which always plays an important role in the development of lubricant formulations.

Lubricant production

An accurate research, which examines the single problems of lubrication and proposes solutions which can use (or not) synthetic base oils or sophisticated additives, is the most special moment in the realisation of a new product, that must then pass a number of laboratory and engine tests to verify the real efficiency. Every lubricant in fact is developed in compliance with the dictates of various classification systems:

  • SAE for the viscosity
  • the American API and the European ACEA for the engine performance

New additives for fuels

Progress in the automotive field, increasingly higher performance, every day more complex and powerful engines require continuous high technological profile research and development activities.
Additives for fuels constitute a valid support for different applicative types and, according to the type of formulation proposed, they contribute to the efficiency and protection of engines taking into account different aspects:

  • wear reduction
  • protection and cleaning of pumps, valves and injectors
  • optimisation of combustion
  • reduction of fumes and/or particulate matter
  • reduction of deposits and corrosive phenomena
